Re: Jamboree Too Expensive?

Well, yest, a World Jamboree IS an expensive affair for people attending from
the more wealthy industrialised nations. But as to the price being
outrageous... There are a few points you have to put into the equation that
will perhaps help you understand.
How long has it been since you priced a family holiday from the USA to
Europe for the same amount of time and comparable schedule of activities?
Do you realise that a fair portion of the fees involved in going to a
World Jamboree are used to subsidise the Scouts and Leaders coming from Third
World countries? Most of them could never afford a trip like this otherwise.
(By the way, I've noticed that a lot of Scouts and Leaders from developed
nations look at a Jamboree as a really great Scouting experience. Scouts and
Leaders from the Third World countries look at it as one of the greatest
Scouting honours they could ever receive.)
So, before you slam the Jamboree fee, why don't you look into the reasons for
the steepness of that fee where you live. Being Helpful to Third World Scouts
and being a brother (or sister) to every other Scout carries some
responsibilities with it sometimes.
