I've been listening to Scouts-l for about a month, and thought it was
time to introduce myself...
I'm Richard Burton, a Scoutmaster with Troop 217 here in Kalamazoo, Mi
(USA). We have a troop of 15 active boys (19 on Charter), 14 (2 are
inactive) are new boys (crossed over in either Sep, Feb, Mar, or Apr
from 3 different packs), the others are either First class or Star. The
Sep (4 boys, plus 2 inactives) crossovers are in one patrol (Snakes),
the others are in new boys are in a different patrol (Foxes), with the
older boys in a third patrol (Panthers). The older boys range from 14
to 17 years old. We have two of the older boys working as Den Chiefs,
and have a request for a third and fourth.
Our troop plans activities every month (10 or so campouts a year, others
are one day activities). We have a long term campout (at local
council's camp) during July, and another long term during August (this
year's is on Bios Blanc Island, northern Lake Huron).
I've also in the OA (brotherhood), I advise as the lodge's communication
advisor. I will be attending NOAC.
I'm working on the woodbadge ticket, with one item to go. (could you
guess that an increase in the number of boys was an item?)
