You are referring to the Boy Scout Leaders' Training Award (fairly new name for
the award). The requirement you refer to is AMONG 12 requirements listed, and
from which you need to complete FIVE.
Server as a merit badge counselor for at least six scouts is what it reads, and
that means exactly that. Counsel six scouts. You can NOT count the fact that
you are listed as a merit badge counselor on some list somewhere. You must act
ually serve (counsel) six boys. If this were not true, the requirement would b
e more than stupid. Do you have any idea of how many people are listed as MB c
ounselors, but who never get a call from a boy; district advancement committee;
etc. The requirement is to help force volunteers to function as MB counselors
, not use the position as a "name only" position.
I suggest you too get a copy of the Leadership Training book, no. 4169A, it real
ly IS the bible of all training.
