Our council HAD in the past several LOCAL awards, each
named to remember a former scouter. They were just
engraved little 'trophy' type things made from standard
BSA catalogue stock items.
For example, I once recieved the Jean Markey CUB leaders award.
There was also a 'DOC IZARD' comissioners staff award.
HOWEVER, these LOCAL awards have been discontinued recently.
I do not know the Official reason why. I heard that one
reason was that there was NO standards for such awards
between districts or councils, and that there was ENOUGH
national and official awards that local people did not
need to create more.
Personally, I think the MORE recognition and awards the BETTER.
What can it really hurt to show some one that the work they
do to support YOUTH is appreciated? Sure training based
awards are nice, and silver animals are nice too, but what
about a pack comittee chairman that worked HARD for 3 years,
is is NOW moving out of the area? etc.
Does anyone know IF there is any NATIONAL policy against
creating LOCAL district our council awards?
