I appreciate the input from all who responded on this subject.
Many responses recommended that I start a new "Kosher" troop.
While this would without doubt solve the problem, I do not believe
it is in the cards at this point in time.
The problem with my starting a new troop are many. Top of the list is
my work schedule. I work ten+ hour days on a very modified schedule.
I work sundays 10 - 8 (or 11 - 9), tuesdays, wednesdays, and thursdays
1 - 11.
I am also a reservist, which is not just a two days a month requirement,
contrary to popular opinion (kind of like scouts two hours a week).
I also have a very old house that I am in the thick of remodeling.
Add in working bingo for my daughter's school, driving my son to
his hebrew teacher, various committee memberships, internet promoter,
etc, and all those two hours for cubscouts ;> (I promised to stay with
the CM position until at least next January) and I hope you get the
idea as to why a new troop is out.
Perhaps in two years.
As for all those volunteers, many of them are already maxxed out also doing
other things in the community. Most are scout leaders in name only and
the idea of camping out does not appeal to them. I lack the time to
develope the few potential leaders (although I am trying to put together
a leadership developement class for a weekday vice the usual saturday/
As always I welcome your input.
