Rather than selling a camp, or some of the wilderness lands that
some councils with camps in upstate NY have "donated" land to
the state as PERMENENT wilderness, and retained the USE rights
of the land for trails, and canoe routes etc.
Unless a council NEEDS money and can sell a camp to SAVE the council
and maybe prevent the loss of other camps etc., that wilderness
deal seems like the best idea yet. Then the state OWN's the
land and has the liabiliy associated with it etc. BUT, the use
of the land for the scouts is preserved.
If some one want to follow up on the idea, maybe some one in the
Otetiana COuncil in Rochester NY can help.
