As a lodge advisor I would want all of my adults to have access to
the information contained in the Handbook for Officers and Advisors.
All of the information within this handbook used to be in the old OA
Handbook that everyone received until they split it into 2 documents.
BTW, I have had problems getting copies of the HOA but mainly because
our Nat'l Supply Store doesnt like carrying them as they are not fast
There are 3 reasons that might have put this book on a "restricted list":
1) The lodge has an agreement with Nat'l Supply where the lodge is the only
authorized seller of OA paraphernalia. Including books, sashes, etc.
I had such an agreement with NS until we realized it was more trouble than
it was worth, now they sell everything that is OA except for lodge
designed items (flap patches, T-shirts, hats, etc). We have a store run
by NS in our council facility so we can speak with them face-to-face.
2) OA Nat'l Committee periodically revises these documents (usually on a
2 year basis coinciding with NOACs), therefore, they may be out of
print, or the new printing is on hold until after NOAC. I have had this
occur with the regular handbooks. We give each new ordeal member a handbook
and on even years it is often difficult to get enough handbooks. In the
spring they are often out of print and in the fall they are sold out due
3) Nat'l Supply and the Nat'l OA Committee are still mad at each other over
the "Lodge Chief" patch and you just got some over-spray from their
