The Northwest Suburban Council has a limitation to 6 merit badges per
counselor. I was startled by this when I first registered with the council
in 1989, but have accepted this as the way things run around here. Since
I felt qualified to council more than 6 merit badges, I had to figure out
which 6 I was best qualified for and council them. I ended up counciling:
Computers -- My profession
Astronomy -- My minor in college
Camping -- I've done my share
Cooking -- I know how to cook, and used to pride myself on the
fact that I did all my own cooking
Hiking -- I've walked a few trails in my day
Backpacking -- Many of them with a pack for camping in the
