I think the problem here stems from wanting to treat these newlyweds/parents
as young people, with no responsibilities, just like we treat our 11 to 18
year old scouts. This is not the case here, both of these young people have
serious responsibilities to each other and to the child. Marriage and
parenthood must be worked at, they do not come easily. Both of these areas
are difficult when the parties involved are older, let alone when they are as
young as these two are. I feel that they need counseling and since most scout
leaders do not have a degree in this sort of counseling...
Scouting does help boys with most areas of growth, but not this one. And I do
not feel we as leaders should be expected to.
I know I did not give any answers to the specific problem, but I am afraid I
do not have any.
