This is going to sound really off-center, but how about presenting the
Arrow of Lights at the halftime of the playoffs? While you won't be
able to get them in uniform, you CAN present and pin the metal
full-sized badge to their jerseys and present the Pack Graduation
certificates in those nice BSA maroon binders to the Scouts. You can
staple the Arrow of Light cloth patch to the card and attach the card
to the inside of the binder, along with (this is something that *I*
did) a personal letter from me thanking them for their service and
wishing them well as Scouts.
With some timing, and with the Assistant Cubmaster announcing that they have
received the highest award in Cub Scouting over the PA system, this
modification CAN be the highlight of the afternoon. During the Blue
and Gold, simply announce that that at the same time as this event is
taking place here, two of our former Cub Scouts whom went onward to a
Scout Troop is standing on the gym floor of the city Parks and Rec
department, being presented their Arrow of Light awards by our
Assistant Cubmaster. While we would have liked for them to be here
with us all this evening, we arranged for this SPECIAL EXCEPTION TO
POLICY (say it that way, to avoid future "Well...I can't be there.."
Then you might want to read the names and Pack achievements of each of
the recipients and have the audience at the Blue and Gold to recognize
Just an idea....(please don't beat me up! I know that Scouting
*should* be slightly more important, but since 1) they are already Boy
Scouts and 2) this *is* the playoffs, and not just a regular game,
maybe this would work out for everyone concerned! )
