Steve - an adirondak (excuse the spelling) is (at least in No. Virginia)
a three sided, permanent shelter, large enough to accomodate four, two
tiered army cots. On hardstand. In our case, there is a BBQ like pit
about five feet in front of the 'dak for cooking and providing warmth.
We use them as shelter for our yearly "freezoree". HINT: DO NOT SHARE
THIS HINT WITH SCOUTS - in order to keep the fire going all during the
cold night, encourage them to drink fluids just before bed. When they
wake up to answer the call, yell at them (from the bottom of your
warm sleeping bag) to add more wood to the fire.
Cruel but effective...
