There seem to be a lot of negative comments about organizing patrols by age
ranges.. things work a little differently here in Canadian Scouting, so not
all the ideas work the same. I'm not sure if it's better to have mixed-age
patrols or not, myself.
For one thing, our Scouts work towards three levels of Achievement Badges,
bronze, silver, and gold. It doesn't work like the BSA system, because
there are a fair amount of requirements where Scouts have to do things as a
patrol. This encourages patrols to work on badges together. Some of these
things are hikes and camps.. so it IS easier to just bring one patrol
camping, or hiking, without having to worry about taking along a new Scout
on a 25-km hike..
