Our council is divided into three districts, with each having their own DE,
roundtable staff, commissioner staff, roundtables, and district events. I am
the boy scout roundtable commissioner. I ask troops to take a theme each
month and do a presentation. We then have a discussion/questions after.
Everyone gets insights into how the other guy accomplishes different aspects
of running a troop, from camping to fundraisers, patrol leaders to scout
leaders. We have a good time and come away with information to apply at home.
This seems to work better then when we had "outsiders" come in and give
presentations. Some outsiders were interesting and informative while others
dragged on and never did make any point. I found that scouters are much more
willing to ask questions or get into a discussion with people in the district
who have been there so to speak. Our final roundtable is a cookout and I will
be giving the troops a survey asking what they would like to see next year.
