One suggestion that you could do on your own. Visit the Gettysburg
battlefield on a weekend. The Boy Scouts have a National Historic Trail
there. The trail guide is obtained at the National Park visitors center. It
has a map, and then has a quiz about each stop on the route. The boys have
to look at the monuments, or at the geography, to answer the questions. The
end of the tour is to travel the route of Pickett's Charge. It is quite a
sight to sit at the high water mark (the farthest point the Confederate troops
reached before they were beaten back) on a Saturday afternoon and see the
almost continuous charge of Boy Scouts in uniform. Although this trail is
designed by the Scouts, anyone is welcome to purchase the pamphlet and follow
the trail. It is well worth the trip.
