I don't envy your position at all......let me just tell you what I
have seen/experienced. I have only been back into scouting for about
3 years. I have already been placed on the district Cub Leader
training team, been Key Staff at a Pow Wow, been the School Night
Chair for 2 years, been a CM for 2 years and I am now also the Cub
Roundtable Commissioner. We have alot of women in our Council, many
of whom fill key positions and are more than qualified and capable of
holding thos positions. Of 5 district commissioners, one is a femal.
Of 5 Cub RT commissioners, one is female. Most of our Pow Wow key
staff was female. I am one of only 3 males on my RT staff. I am one
of 3 males on the Cub Ldr training staff. Obviously, I am speaking
from a Cub leader point of view, so I may not be what you are looking
for, since women seem to be more readily accepted in the Cub leader
ranks, as women were the original "Den Mothers". I do remember my
surprise when I saw a female with a OA pocket patch. I have no
probelm with women in the scouts, many are much more competant than
alot of males. My packs UC is a female that is very involved with
her older son's troop......she is an outdoor nut and loves thecamping
and hiking and paticipates in those activities with hers son's troop
as well. I'm sure you will have tho occasional die hard that will
feel that women are incompetant and unable to properly run a troop or
be a UC. I run into alot of that in the engineering world, being a
largely male dominated field. There will be incompetant males as
well as females.
