Jim, another comment I thought I'd make on your post, about what happens
here for CORs...
Our District (OA Chapter) has led the the Council (Lodge) for the last 6
years in COR support/staffing. (their 1st COR had 350+ registrations, their
6th this past spring had >800 registrations) anyway... The boys have been
staffing/running the Camp-O-Ree for the District 100% (no active adult
leadership or staffing, only OA Advisor(s) there if needed) for 6 years
As such one of the "traditions" they have grown into is to design their own
"custom" epulets for their uniform for the COR. One year is was purple, one
year black, another it was two-tone (black & pink), another year pink... you
get the idea.
Now, these were NOT official BSA colors and were not "allowed" at any other
function or event beside the COR... however, the boys who primary staff for
the COR (maybe 15 or so) always seemed to wear them to the Roundtable when
promoting the COR, as well as the the Chapter mtgs when planning the COR.
Those of us adults who were functioning as COR advisors all seemed to ignore
the rule violation in exchange for the value received from the comradre and
team spirit it helped build among the boys.
I suspect if we were to go by the Uniform and Insignia guide, they couldn't
have worn them... but gee, I think I must have forgotten to check it during
the COR planning process <g>.
