My name is Mike Wolff. I'm a Rover with the 1st Kanata Rover Crew. You've
probably seen me posting messages here before. I'm posting this time 'cause
I need everybody's help.
I'm currently the secretary of the National Capital Region Rover Round Table.
The purposes of this body are as follows (from its constitution):
"-To provide a forum for all crews in the region.
-To provide an interface between the Regional Council and the Rovers
of the Region.
-To provide sponsorship for Regional Rover activities.
-To provide representatives to the Ontario Rover Round Table (ORRT).
-To promote Rovering in the National Capital Region within and outside
Basically, this Round Table is meant to inform, represent, and connect all the
Rovers in the NCR. But it isn't working, because we can't find the Rovers, and
they may not know about us.
From conversations with the Regional Rover Coordinator, Peter Murphy, I have
learned that he has received a list of registered Rovers in the area from
Regional headquarters with only 22 names on it. Further, there are only five
Crews named on it: 1st Kanata, 72nd Ottawa (Knights of King Edward), 136th
Christie, 1st Rockland, and 6th Orleans (Duke of Edinburgh). I know there are
other active crews out there--I am simply not sure how to get in touch with
The biggest problem is that many Rovers do not register as such. They may be
active as Rovers, but they are registered as leaders or advisors, and so do not
show up on the official lists. It is almost impossible for me to find these
Rovers--I can only try to make myself known to them through postings like this
The executive of the Nationa Capital Region Rover Round Table is as follows:
Chairperson--Craig Cameron, 1545 Sherruby Way, Kanata, Ontario, Canada.
K2W 1A9 (613) 839-3261
Vice-chairperson--Kevin Dunn, 19 Paula Crescent, Nepean, Ontario, Canada.
K2H 8Y8 (613)596-0321
Secretary--Mike Wolff, 90 Pentland Place, Kanata, Ontario, Canada.
K2K 1V8 (613) 592-3204 email@example.com
Regional Rover Coordinator (advisor)--Peter Murphy, 75 Pentland Place, Kanata,
Ontario, Canada. K2K 1V9 (613) 592-3613
This executive is seeking to fulfill the mandate is set out in the purpose of
the constitution of the NCRRRT. I would ask of anyone who knows of Rovers to
pass on any information on Rovers they might see on this electronic medium.
Further, I would ask that those reading this encourage Rovers in the National
Capital Region of Ontario to ask those Rovers to contact myself or another
member of the executive.
The next meeting of the National Capital Region Rover Round Table is Thursday,
December 9th, 1993, at 8pm at Scout Headquarters on Baseline Road in Ottawa,
Ontario, Canada. The NCRRRT meets regularly as above on the second Thursday of
For those who aren't to sure what I'm talking about when I say Rovers, a Rover
is a young adult (from By-laws, Policies, and Procedures) member of Scouting
between the ages of 18 and 26. They form Crews with adult advisors who offer
guidance in the ways of Scouting, though not leadership. They meet in District
Regional, or Provincial Round Tables. The Rover motto is "service", and Rovers
live up to this motto by helping out within Scouting and within their
communities. Rovers also gather for camps called Moots.
"Just do it, because life is not a spectator sport."
