Sounds like some of our discussion on "sig files", huh??

Again, this sounds a lot like the discussion we had back in October
about the Jehovah's Witnesses and Scouting....don't it??
Jo, there's a LOT of well-meaning people out there with great-sounding
Scouting titles telling folks some really misleading things....the
fact is, that when that family heard that, they needed to call the
local Council office. There, the Scout Executive there would assure
the family that not only are they welcome to join Scouting, but he
would probably go out of his way to assist the family in finding a
unit nearby that they feel confortable with.
It is OUR responsibility as Scouters, whether volunteer or
professional, to INFORM AND TO _BE_INFORMED_ as to our policies.
There's a LOT of potential Scouts and Scouters that are depending on
US to let them know...they've read so much crap in the papers, on the
"discussion shows", on the nightly news....and SOME (not all, but
SOME) is FALSE OR MISLEADING. They want to hear it from us..the
folks IN the program, and they don't want to be yanked around!
This forum is one of the ways we can all be informed and inform
others...but let's "share the wealth" and let others in our units, our
Districts and Councils know what we know. Not to be "know-it-alls",
but simply as an extension of our Scouting principles!
