Just to add to Mike's comments... ALWAYS be sure you fill out a fundraising
application with the Council BEFORE you do any fundraising at the unit
level. That's when they normally check for conflicts and such, as well as
make sure you're not wearing your uniform when you're not supposed to be
(only ok during popcorn sales and Scout-O-Rama ticket sales as I nderstand
The Council is supposed to check your form for things that are safe and
legal, as well as not conflicting wtih SME/FOS or other Council events.
(short story on conflicts)
Our Council, like many, has an annual golf fundraising event (big bucks),
and one year a local Troop decided to have it's own tourney (not knowing
that the Council did it)... by the time they filled out the fundraising app.
they had already sent out publicity, etc.. and the Council's normal
suckers^D^D^D^D^D^D^D er.. contributors were confused about which golf event
To make a long story short(er), the Troop got in lots of hot water. (also a
good story about advance notice before PR is released <g>).
