As I wrote earlier, Joan, not only is the National Office receptive to
units/Districts/Councils doing so, they have sent word of that to
local Councils asking them to please send copies of their production
efforts to the National office for archive purposes.

Way ahead of you!! Send your videos (this sounds like a promo for
"America's Funniest Home Videos, doesn't??) to the following address.
On the tape, please provide your Council NAME AND NUMBER (the National
office has something for those Council numbers...if you don't know the
Council number, post here and someone here will find out for you...or
just call the local Council office and ask!), the DATE that it was
shown or taped, and if it's a unit, the UNIT TYPE AND NUMBER and its
CHARTERED PARTNER. Please place it ON THE TAPE, because they will be
seen by the External Communications staff, and it would be helpful as
to where it came from.
Also( just like on TV) they cannot acknowledge getting your tape.
There's only three people that work there, and they have other things
to do other than to review tapes. So, please honor that desire to get
much done in little time and MAKE A COPY OF YOUR TAPE BEFORE MAILING
IT. Also realize that, like everything in the BSA just about, those
tapes become the property of the BSA and you have consented to their
usage of the tapes in whatever way they see fit (everything's gotta
have a downside to them, you know!).
The name and address:
External Communications, S200
Attn: Carolyn Y. Cummings
National Office, BSA
1325 W. Walnut Hill Lane, P.O. Box 152079
Irving, Texas 75015-2079
Carolyn handles all external communications programs and marketing and
works closely with the National PR firm contracted by the BSA to do
the actual external communication efforts.
Oh yeah...make sure that your local Council hasn't sent a copy to
them. The Scout Executives were asked to do just that about a year
and half ago, to help them gear up for the Jamboree, so there's a good
chance if your local Council did something on a cable channel for
instance, that it was sent to National.
This IS NOT limited to "recruiting efforts" The National office also
wants tapes of Scouts participating in other NATIONAL EMPHASIS
activities, like "Drugs: A Deadly Game", "Scouting for Food", and the
"Learning for Life" programs.
Hope that helps, and let's hope that Carolyn will call me and ask me
to tell all of you NOT to send any more!! hehehehhee (I thought here
I was supposed to tell about the wonderful prizes you would win if
your video was selected, but unfortunately, there's NO PRIZES other
than assisting the National Office with a very difficult task: telling
youth how much fun it is to be a Cub, Scout or Explorer!
