Maybe CUBS and SCOUTS should publish and annual list of
recently outlawed Ceremonies and SKITS etc.?
I know of many NEW CUB leaders, scout leaders and even
scouts that go through OLD program material to find "NEW"
ideas for cememonies and skits! But it seems that every year
there are NEW skits, and ceremonies that are banned. The OA
gets updates every year about "restrictions" concerning indian
ceremonies, and such items and using MASKS, face paint, and hoops.
The 'upside down' bobcat has been banned in our area for at least
8 or 10 years! I recently saw a list of 'old' skits that are as of
now, no longer acceptable. Such a SKIT which involes catching "SUCKERS",
another that required the services of a "BIG JERK" and a "GERMAN U BOAT"
skit, were some of those that I recall. The list was a full page long.
Some of the skits I had never seen. The list was passed arround at a
recent camporee so those units that were to present a SKIT, did not
perform a BANNED or out lawed or NOT politically correct skit.
Pretty soon the list of CAN't DO, will be longer than the SKITS books.
If you invent a NEW skit, or a ceremony, is there NOW a set of RULES
or a checklist or a test that it should pass before you can perform it?
It gets hard to be creative unless you know the rules.
Pretty soon, I expect to hear they outlawed candles and feathers!
(yes I know about Eagle feathers, etc.) And you better make sure
any fur you use is not from a protected animal etc.
still scouting, since '57
