A number of mergers have occured in various councils in NY state
over the past years. Some were deemed to be HOSTILE by some
adults, and also SOME of the OA leaders that were to loose POWER!
But, DO you know what I noticed at the JAMBOREE? Most the scouts
in the jamboree troops from the NEW council thought it was GREAT!
They had a NEW CSP to trade, plus any old one were more valuable!
SO, just remeber what Kathie keeps telling us, SCOUTING is for the
BOYS! Where is the HOSTILITY? The only thing that concerns me,
is that mergers often result in the loss of camp properties!
That is the only real loss to the scouts. As an adult, I have
to drive a few more miles to round tables, but SCOUTING has pretty
much survived. We lost a few people that were maybe only in scouting
for the power and potential GLORY, but MOST all the Unit leaders
are still in scouting! The whole concept of a HOSTILE anything
should just be ignored! This is SCOUTING in the US. BSA! It is
NOT US versus them! DO what needs to be done and get on with the FUN
stuff! It is NOT THEY, it is ONLY US!
My 2 cents on mergers, revisited.!
scouting since '57, survivor of council & distrcit mergers!!
