I did not keep Mike's posting, but see now that I should have. So I hope
whoever did will post it on the open list again.
To address your question, though, here is the statement from Rules and
Regulations, no. 57-492:
Article XI - Section 1 - Clause 2b:
-----"In the case of a chartered organization, any funds or equipment which may
have been secured as property of the unit shall be held in trust by the
charering organization or the chartered local council, as may be agreed upon,
pending reorganization of the unit or for the promotion of the program of the
Scouts of America."
This, of course, refers to the closing down of units. However, if the equipment
remains the property of the chartered organization at the close of a unit, it
is also the property of the C.O. during the life of the unit.
Most unit leaders do not know this, however, it is indeed taught in basic
training, etc. as well.
