If this is the story that I think he is refering to (1800 Dismissed
from Boy Scouts) my only comment is "At least the BSA did something
and has a program to combat this sort of thing." Look at the negative
publicity that the Catholic Church is getting because they don't have
a program. At one time several years ago, I was a sexual assault
crisis counselor and saw the damage that repeated instances of sexual
abuse cause. BSA with its Child Protection Plan addresses the
possibility that a perpetrator will use a leadership position to take
advantage of a child or children, and IMHO very successfully so. The
number of instances of child molestation involving Scout leaders has
dramatically dropped over the last several years, most likely due to
Two-Deep Leadership. By supporting and following this philosophy we
Scouters are Doing Our Best to make this kind of article something
that will be seen in the future only in history books.
