Well, after nine years as an adult leader (seven of those with various
troops Hi, Pab, how's T-21?), I finally di it - completed Scoutmastership
Seven of eight trainees from Treasure Coast District were the Coffee Cup
Patrol ("Have Cup, Will Travel!") met at good ole "Tons of Skeeters" (and
they had thier hypos sharpened!) for a weekend of fun-filled education.
What impressed me about this session was not so much the basic skills crash
course they gave (old hat, though the knot guy taught me a couple of new
tricks), but rather how to instruct and subsequently GRADE the boys! They
showed such things as being able to go into the woods within 100 ft of the
hut and complete the nature requirements, as well as how to use games for
education (the nature part was interesting to me 'cause I am not a Florida
Cracker, I am a hillbilly, and the flora and fauna are verrrryy different).
Our Patrol got First Place in the knot board Kim's Game ( they had about
sixty different ones - we got 25 right), but the only other contest we even
placed in was the stretcher race (4th).
Being Florida, it rained like pouring Prodigy* out of a boot, and the
campfire show went on. We presented an award to the guy that ate the bee-
killing chili (the 'coons wouldn't touch it - wouldn't even lift the lid! -,
but they did steal the crackers someone left out maybe Little Brother IS
smarter than People). He wanted to know if I wanted the stinger for dessert.
All in all, a good course, and we didn't sit still for one minute! Felt like
a second childhood (I know, Pab - have to get out of the FIRST one first! :D)
Can't wait for Spring, and Woodbadge!

(I should join the Dragon Patrol, 'cause my butt sure is tonite - draggin',
that is, and breathin' fire from last nite's bee-killin ' chili!)
