Did you or Margaret have a handout? Our Council (National Capital Area)
prepares a Join Scouting Night flyer for distribution to all the schools.
Our Pack takes charge of distributing them to the two schools from which we
draw most of our boys, rather than leaving that for the DE to do. We speak
personally with the principals, count and pack them up for each classroom
teacher with instructions to distribute them no later than the day before
Join Scouting Night. Our new Tiger Coordinator also made up a special flyer
just for the first graders and took them to the two schools.
The Cubmaster and I also passed out flyers directly to parents at both
schools' Back to School Nights.
The sponsoring Church also announced Join Scouting Night in its bulletin.
As a result, we signed up 20 Tigers, 1 Wolf, 3 Bears, and 2 Webelos last
week. We may get a few more from the public school, which had its Back to
School Night yesterday, where I distributed more flyers just in case the boyus
didn't bring home the ones distributed at school.
It was unfortunate that the public school's Back to
School Night took place after Join Scouting Night; the Catholic schools's
BtSN was early in September. We still picked up a good number of registrations
from it on Join Scouting Night.
By the way, our Council is now using the new form for registering Tigers;
apparently, the supply of the old orange forms has been exhausted.
I don't know if these ideas will help, but taking publicity into our own
hands certainly resulted in many more new registrations this year than in the
past several years.
