Thanks one and all;
I appreciate everyones response to the Sheath Knife problem.
I will be going to the Camporee planning meeting tomorrow
night. I now have a position I will be taking to the meeting.
These boys should be able to do all they need
with a pocketknife. I do think we need to revisit
the position with the Scouters in this area. Dear hunting
is a sport that takes place from September to December
here in the low country, and some of the Scouters wear
some of the same gear on a Camporee they wear on a dear
hunt. Some of that gear is not needed on a camporee.
Speaking of the deer hunt, I am new to this area, and am
now learning of the dear hunt situation here. Seems like it
has a big control on Scouting activities in the fall, in 2 ways.
One is many of the Scouters are not available for weekend camping
trips becaouse they are out every weekend hunting. The other thing
I am learning, is the hesitation to do any camping at all in the
fall of the year. Too many deer hunters, to much chance of someone
We will have a Camporee this fall, but much of the planing
is in discussions of a place to hold the Camporee where there
are not many hunters. I think we are ending up at a city park
in Monks Corner.
