What's wrong with the camping opportunities in Kentucky?
You didn't mention my state as a possibility for people in "East Central
Ohio". Yet, we seem to have half of Ohio down here on the weekends!
Seriously, The Red River Gorge (as an example) is a unique geological
area that people come from all over the world to visit and it's very close to
central Ohio. There are a variety of camping/hiking opportunities in "The
Gorge". Then, there are other places like Mammoth Cave (one of the seven
natural wonders of the world) and The Scouting Museum in Western Kentucky.
