I had basically became overran with several key projects all coming up
at the same time, and coupled with the biannual physical training
testing of my Reserve unit and a reorganization of a Troop in a town
one county away, I haven't had the opportunity to answer the 244
messages that have come my way.
If you are waiting on an answer from me about a specific issue, I will
be answering my mail (ALL of it!) tonight and into the wee hours in
the morning.... I have made notes (mentally and physically) on the
current issues of shealth knives (the BSA don't want them even though
at one time they sold them!); patch trading during the Jamboree (I
have nine people "nosing around" to find the answers to that
rumor...); the words to "announcements, announcements,
annouce--MENTS!"; and some other things that individuals have asked
me to do some digging for.
I HAVE found the answer to one item that has been recently discussed
here....Kathie, your Scouter that had passed away in August CAN be
awarded the District Award of Merit upon your local Council's
pettition to the National Court of Honor. Since the District Award of
Merit is technically a local Council award and does NOT have to be
approved by the National Court of Honor, your local Council can make
the decision to do this...or (my opinion), send the application along
with a letter from your Advancement Chair and the Scout Executive
wishing an exception to the policy. This has been done before, my
friend with the Court of Honor told me this morning (after trying to
reach me at work and at home since Monday), for professionals (because
professionals are basically barred from recieving volunteer awards)
on nineteen different occasions over the years; so, it *is* possible
to do this for this man.
Of course, when you do this, as several noted here, expect that you've
started a precedence.
I'll see what I can find out for the rest later on today and overnight
tonight...and do *I* have a doozy of a question for the list
tonight!!! (and you know when *I* can't come up with an answer that
makes sence, that _it's_a_problem_!!
Thanks again for your patience!!
Settummanque!@HEY!! He *didn't* fall off the edge of the world!
