I was in Bogota, Colombia attending the III Pan-American Jamboree when I
turned 18. The Scoutmaster was prepared. He had the patch and he gave me
the rights/repsonsiblities of an Asst. SCM beginning on my birthday. When
I returned to Michigan I went from Jr. Asst. SCM to Asst. SCM in the troop.
There was no big change in my life, I was already doing much the same as
the troops other Asst. SCMs. I was even spending most of my time out in
the hall BSing with the other adults while the scouts ran the meeting (we
could watch through the windows).
Typically when a Scout/Scouter changes positions, you need to fill out a
new registration form. In this case the young man who is now 18 must fill
out an adult application (with references, signatures, etc.) and turn it
in. There is no fee for a change in position in our council, his current
registration sould still apply until the charter expires.
