Mike, I believe CNR was still a requisite up to 1972, when E-Sci took its
place. (I checked the 8th ed BS HB, 1972) to confirm this. .
>Has there been ANY TIME in the history of the BSA when the Camping and
>Cooking Merit Badges were REQUIRED for the Eagle Scout Progress Award?
>(and yes, I didn't slip up...I gave you a hint!)
BOTH were required when I trailed the Eagle from 1968-1971, and a few years
They were both deleted (not even optional) in the 1972 BSHB.
Also 24 MBs were required then, as well as beaucoups of Skill Awards which
displaced the rank requirements.

See above :)
BTW, I got my Eagle in '71, when there were NO optional MBs:
First Aid, Safety, Cit. in Community, Cit. in Nation, Cons. Nat. Res. (which
replaced Soil & Water Cons in 1968), Nature, Personal Fitness, Swimming,
Lifesaving, Camping & Cooking, making eleven in all, with no options. We
also needed only 21 MBs. :D
