Here's the current "scheme" that Scoutmasters SHOULD be tracking:
Year one.... attendance at Scoutmaster Fundamentals, roundtables, and
conducting of Junior Leader training in his Troop.
At year one and a half, he or she qualifies for the Scoutmaster Award
of Merit....and continues his training by attendance at a Showando,
Scouter's Resource Fair, or something similiar in scope on a local
Council level. At end of the second year, perhaps as far as two and a
half years, he or she receives the Scouters' Training Award and
continues to work his or her way toward earning the Key. The Key
comes between the third and fourth year of service usually.
Before the key, usually comes at least one opportunity for attendance
at Woodbadge. Woodbadge attendance in many Councils should be keyed
on the three year tenure mark for Scoutmasters; two year tenure for
other unit Scouters. At this time, the Scoutmaster is fimely grounded
in his or her role, has had many experiences (good and bad) to
reflect up during the practical Woodbadge course, and understand the
fundamentals of the program and how it's delieverd.

Good luck! Let us all know the outcome!!!
