TO me the ACTIVE question and the scout spirit question for an EAGLE
candidate should reflect his entire history of scouting, not just
the fact that he got distracted from scouting once he got into sports
or girls etc.
HOWEVER, our scoutmaster as have others on this list, point out to the
scout, that the EAGLE rank is ONLY the Beginning of a life long
commitment to scouting. The Eagle is the highest ideal of scouting,
and a scout should/MUST be willing to recognise and accept that fact
as part of the SM review of the eagle project etc. If the scout does
not have the commitment to scouting his project may not succeed either,
and he will fail on his own accord. I would never to chose to STOP any
scout from attempting to complete the requirements for Eagle. BUT I
would make sure he understands the obligations of EARNING the rank.
If he accepts the obligations to scouting, NO ONE else should try to
stop him. He should be allowed to succeed or fail upon his own efforts.
That is just my personal opinions. You milage may vary!
