I joined the list a couple of weeks ago, but have just been listening in
for a while before jumping into the middle of everything. When I first got
on, everyone was gone to jamboree and there was very little discussion
happening here. I thought ..oo0O( Isn't this lively! ), but since y'all
got back I've never gotten so much mail before! :-)
My name is Kipp Davis, and I will be the Den Leader for my son's Bear Cub
Scout Den this coming year after being the Assistant last year. There will
be many leadership positions opening in our pack after this year, and I am
considering whether I want to serve in one of those or maintain the close
contact as my group goes on to Webelos.
I don't have much background in Scouting... was a Cub Scout about 34 years
ago, not a strong program, and only stayed in for 2 years. My Uncle was a
Scoutmaster at Boy Scout Camp Cowles, at Diamond Lake in Northeast
Washington State, and he went on to become an Executive in Orange County,
California. I was his guest at Scout camp when I was about 13 years old,
had a great time and regretted not continuing with Scouts... (sigh).
I have one kid in my Den who has told his parents he didn't want to be in
Cub Scouts this year... he thought there would be more hiking type
activities, so I told his parents to tell him to give it another try. I
want to plan at least one activity a month based on the kids
expectations... any thoughts on this?
This morning someone mentioned a Jamboree in Vancouver, B.C. in 1995? My
group will be 2nd year Webelos then... Is there anything for Cubs at a
Jamboree? If not it would be a shame... so close and yet so far...!
