Jamboree Impressions, Part 2

Well, here are some more impressions I had on the Jamboree.
One thing that I was bothered by was the absence of various events at this
jamboree. Such as:
The Wide Game. They had one since atleast 67 Jambo.
Show & Do.
Eagle Reunion. While not an Eagle, was bothered by its absence.
Official Woodbadge Reunion. For the second jambo in a row there was
no official WB reunion. I know at the last jambo I was real annoyed
by that. I had worked to finish my ticket before the 89 Jambo so that
I could go to the reunion with my beads, and then they didn't have one.
(in my opinion, not having one was a snub by National on Green Bar Bill)
I figured this jambo they would have one, but all they had was another
unofficial one like in 89. They had a HUGE turnout, and the new
Chief Scout Exect was there, but I was annoyed that it wasn't official.
In my opinion the 5K run was a silly idea, and no replacement for some of these
old, fun events of the past. (I did go to it and got the pin they gave out.
`course I just walked it).
I thought this years handling of the Region stuff was better then in the past
but it could still be improved. Let me explain a little...
As most of you know, at the jamborees, the various regions would produce special
jambo versions of regional stuff for sale (patches, slides, bolos, N/C, etc).
'course if you wanted them, you had to go to each region headquarters. I
tried this in 81 and got some stuff. In 89 I made a concerted effort to hit
them all, and had better success, but I was annoyed that the Western Region
refused to sell me anything because I wasn't from the Western Region.
In addition to this, the jamborees always had some identification of each
subcamp. In 81, it was a patch with the subcamp`s flag (an early American
flag). You got one and I don't believe they sold them (could be wrong).
In 85 they used flags for identification, but they gave a hat pin instead of
a patch (I believe one per boy & no sales, but could be wrong). In 89, they
subcamps were identified with space missions, and had pins. These pins were
for sale, but you had to go to the subcamp HQ for them (around 20 or so).
I tried this and was able to get most. 3 subcamps didn't make any pins,
one had sold out, and Western Region...
This year they did something different. At TP A (near HQ), they had a
special Region TP selling ALL the regional jambo stuff, and the patches and
pins for the 19 subcamps. This made it alot easier to get the stuff, but one
thing I was annoyed with was that they apparently had pre-sales for the
region stuff, but these forms were only sent to the contingents and not the
staff. And they only sent the pre-order form for your region. I was a little
annoyed that I didn't receive one, and wish they had sent out ALL the forms
to everyone. I was able to get the stuff I wanted, but still...
Another thing they did new this Jambo was `subcamp activities', which I guess
was to replace the wide game & show&do. They gave out one leather hat pin
with the subcamp emblem on it, so the are 19 of these pins out there.
Well, that's all for now.
