Hi, all. I'm taking this opportunity to introduce myself. I've been reading
postings here for a couple months, but haven't had the time to get active.
Since my job was eliminated a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd use some of
my spare time to jump on in. At our troop's leader meeting last night, I
mentioned this service, and immediately was drafted to let everyone know
about the discussions taking place here.
Name: Shel Holtz
Address: 17056 Jersey St.
Granada Hills, CA 91344
Eagle Scout, Troop 317, Canoga Park, CA, somewhere about 1969. I just
finished three years as committee chairman and two years as cubmaster for my
son's pack Pack 118, in Northridge. Now I'm assistant scoutmaster in Troop
549, Granada Hills.
Until July 15, I was director of Corporate Communications for Allergan, Inc.
I've worked in corporate communications (public relations, media relations,
employee communications, etc.) for 16 years. I'm an Accredited Business
Communicator and a member of the international executive board for the
International Association of Business Communicators.
I'm looking forward to getting involved in these discussins. In the
meantime, I have a question about fundraising. Our troop is intent on
selling those First Aid kits advertised in the back of Scouting magazine. I
know the boys can't wear uniforms during this type of fundraiser. Has
anybody out there tried to sell these, or any of the other items advertised?
Do these efforts work? Any tips?
Yours in Scouting,
