OFFICE MEMO JamboO Bulletin #2 Date:8/2/93
Well here I am at the Jamboree for a whole week. The Troops will be here in
the next day or so. Most things are set up or close to it. Merit Badge Midway
was in disarray. Many booths are still empty. I don't envy the folks having
to set up in just a few days. The midway has many small booths that will teach
a Scout all or a lot of a given merit badge.
The newspaper is well on its way to full operation. All 11 Macintosh computers
are up and running. The machines are interconnected with either Appletalk or
Ethernet. The kind folks at Cayman Systems loaned me a GatorBox router to
interconnect the two network types. Our staff hats finally appeared. Large
wasps that we call Jurassic wasps have been menacing us.
Bruce Johnson, Don Izard and several others have visited me at the newspaper.
They send the rest of the net their regards. Temperatures have been high along
with the humidity. The ground is very dry, with high fire hazard. Tonight,
the Jambo staff was treated to a welcome show at the arena. The musical guests
were the Navy band "Country Current". While I amy not be crazy about country
music, I really enjoyed their show. A 12 projector slide and video show
portrayed the making of the Jamboree.
The Public Relations staff also had the "campfire" show. Subjects ridiculed at
the show included the recycling at the staff dining areas. Tonight there were
seven garbage cans to seperate your dinner scraps into. Its now 1:20AM and I
have to awaken at 6:30AM, so I am going to sleep.
Regards from Fort A. P. Hill at the 1993 National Scout Jamboree.
