As a former Scout, I will have to agree. My home
Council(Sequoyah)used to have a council-wide Camporal at the VA center in
Johnson City, TN. As part of the Saturday-night show, they always provided
some form of entertainment.
One year they had a group of break-dancers come and perform for the
show. This was during the break-dancing craze, and most every Scout enjoyed
the show. They asked us to come closer to the stage so that we could help
catch anybody who might accidentally fall off the stage. Needless to say,
we were packed tighter than sardines in a can. Everybody loved the show.
The year before that we were treated to the rockin' blue grass
sounds of Homer, Jed, and String Bean(not kidding!). The audience looked
like an ad for Vivarin(TM).
Unfortunately, it seems that the entertainment for these events is
sometimes chosen on the basis of what the Scouters want, and not what the
Scouts want. I know that the Scouters have to be there during the show and
listen to it as well, but the BSA is for the Scouts, and I think that the
Scouts should get a little more consideration.
