In a recent private email Joan Upham asked me the following question. For
those of you with 2 1/2 weeks of vacation in 1997, I am answering the
question to the entire list. Joan asked:
> So...one question -- how does one apply and get picked for National staff???
About 1.5 - 2 years before the Jamboree, when the youth applications
come out, adult National Staff applications are available from your
council office. If you fill one out and specify your skills, the Jambo
national office will attempt to route your application to the group that
can best use your skills. It helps GREATLY to know a professional or
volunteer that is already assigned to an area you want to work in.
Assuming I live through this Jambo, and plan to work at
the 1997 Jambo, I would be somone to ask about the newspaper staff,
for example. At this Jambo, you could make friends with the current
staff and develop contacts, since there are usually some core group
that works on a particular area every Jambo.
Does this answer (in 25,000 words or less) your question ? If not,
you have until Thursday at 5PM to email me ssome more questions.
