This appointment, unfortunately, is not an isolated example. My
family and I were in DC in May for the obligatory civics lesson. As
we entered the Senate gallery, our esteemed senator from Michigan
(Riegle) was touting the appointment of Roberta Actenburg as a
assistant/ undersecretary in HUD. She is the lesbian activist famous
for mobilizing the SF board of supervisors and United Way against the
scouts. Incidently, strong supporting remarks were made by both
Feinstein and Boxer. Boxer in particular was particularly outrageous,
saying that Actenburg's actions were _required_ by law.
I have written my representative about related matters; I'm not sure
how effective this is. Personally, I plan to wait until closer to
election for a follow-up "I remember what you did" letter.
But let's face it, folks, we are facing a very inimicable environment.
