I understand, as many of us do, that the two programs are quite different, as
are Varsity, Venture, and Exploring, Learning for Life, etc. However, the
youth protection program IS operating in hundreds of councils and attendance is
required AND it works. You will also see less frivilous charges from the
children; and no problems with attending once you go.
I never have understood how anyone can work with children and not believe they
are worth whatever time (1 - 2 - 10 hours) of trainng it takes to give these
kids something they "get no where else."
I feel very strongly about this issue -- and hate the statements like, "we don't
have the time," to me that means "I don't care enough." A wise man once said
if you want a job done, give it to the busiest person around. That is very
true -- if you want your kids safe, give them to adults who have survived and
seen the damage done to a little boy, and see what happened to the adult he
It is MUCH easier then to understand that 2 hours of anyone's precious time does
not even begin to measure up to the LIFE of a child.
