Micheal L. ("Mr. Coffee") Walton
The eldest of Sergeant First Class (retired) and Mrs. Moseanna
Walton, Mike entered Scouting in 1968 in Aldingen Housing Area,
Ludwigsburg Germany. He earned the Bobcat, Wolf (with Gold and two
Silver Arrow Points), Bear (with Gold and three Silver Arrow Points)
and six WEBELOS activity badges (Traveler, Engineer, Athelte, Citizen,
Scholar and Artist) before graduating from Pack 63 in 1971 to Troop
63. He also receieve a German Bobcat Pin and several segments for the
Transatlantic "round the world" patch.
In Troop 63, he earned the Tenderfoot and Second Class badges,
and nineteen segments. One of the achievements he completed was being
honored with the Alpine District Camping Medal in 1972. His Troop
also went to every one of the Transatlantic Council's camping
facilities in Europe as a special summer camp adventure during the
summer of 1971.
Mike was inactive as a Scout until he came to Fort Knox and to
the Rose Terrace military community. He became a member of Troops
268, 126 and later 328 before each was folded. He returned to Germany
in 1973, where he served as a member of Troop 225 in Pattonville,
Germany. He earned the First Class Badge and was elected to the Order
of the Arrow, Scouting's national honorary during that time. Unable
to complete the Ordeal, Mike returned to Fort Knox where he served as
a original member of Troop 801, formed from the merger of five other
Troops, three of which he was a former member of. In Troop 801, Mike
served as Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Scribe,
Librarian, Instructor, and Den Chief for several Packs. Mike was also
one of the first Chaplain Aides in the Council, and also earned
several awards at summer camps.
Mike later served as Senior Patrol Leader and when a new Troop
was formed from merging two others, Mike volunteered to go and serve
as Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 666 until they got on their feet.
The Troop did not, and was later merged with Troop 801 and Mike was
again elected to serve as Senior Patrol Leader. Mike also served on
the summer camp staff at Rough River Reservation and later at Camp
Hazelwood and attended National Camping School for Conservation and
Enviromental staff in Tennessee.
Mike is the holder of the Certificate of Heroism, the William
T. Hornaday Award, and the God and Country Award in addition to the
eleven trail medals and four other awards from the Council. He is
also a member of two Explorer Posts and have served as Vice Mayor of
Rose Terrace in 1976. Mike has earned the German and Spainish
interpreter strips, the Gold Quill Award and is a Brotherhood member
of Zit.-Kala-Sha Lodge 123 of the Order of the Arrow.
Mike has earned more than 50 merit badges (see list of merit
badges) toward his achieement this evening. He will be honored withh
the Eagle Scout Badge and with the Bronze Palm this evening.
Mike Walton is a junior at Fort Knox High School and plans on
attending the University of Louisville or Eastern Kentucky University
when he graduates, majoring in communications. He got his nickname
from always drinking coffee during campouts.
( mercifully ends here )
Mike, seriously: I hope it helps.
