Jim, Mary Lee:
Either CSP is acceptable for wear as your Council Shoulder Patch. The
local Council had to get National approval before the patch could be
made, therefore, it is acceptable to wear at any time in lieu of the
"official" patch. This is something that lots of local Councils will
do to raise monies for camp or a special event, such as the National
Jamboree. There isn't any documentation that supports this except
that your Council issued the patch, therefore they expected you to
wear it as such in your Council. (Councils don't just spend $500-700
on a patch only to be worn for one year and then tossed away.)
There is presently no policy that keeps a Scout from coming back from
this summer's Jamboree with a Jamboree CSP on his shoulder and then
someone "telling him" that he *must* take it off for the "official"
strip. Truth is, BOTH strips *are* "official". As long as the strip
identifies the local Council by name or initials, has the BSA
identification on the patch (either verbage or the BSA emblem, full
color or one color), and has some design approved by the BSA, it is
acceptable for wear anytime.
The only thing is, Mary Lee, is *don't* wear it during the Jamboree,
if you only have one of them or don't want to part with that one.
Folks like me and Jim might talk you out of it!!!
