"Pogey-bait" is slang for candy/sweets. Its origin is military . . .
Specifically the Navy. Pogey-bait is what you get at the "Geedunk" (formerly
the "Slop-Chest"). Sometimes geedunk also means what is sold there and is
substituted for pogey-bait. Loosely, either may mean "junk-food".
A side-note: "Pogey-bait" is not P.C. Pogey refers to Pogue which is
slang for homosexual.
It's amazing what remains of military slang I picked-up in the 50's!
