The SM course you took is exactly right, by the book, and our current course.
We are now doing a basic training course very close to the Canadian WoodBadge I
course, but, their Woodbadge course is much like Gilwell's and is different from
ours here in the US.
At a recent Swap Meet, I came across documentation from 1910-12 era that stated,
"all Boy Scout Leaders must complete a 5 year apprenticeship training before
being allowed to serve as the primary scout leader of a troop." Now -- I did
not know we ever did that, I knew that England did.
With all the moaning over here about giving up time to learn how to better work
with the boys, I wonder what the leaders of today would feel, if they actually
had to earn the right to serve.
