Frank and others,
First of all, Explorers (any kind) run from 14 - 21 yrs old, not 15.
Second, [this was a convenient place to insert these comments] I don't
believe in playing the numbers game for the sake of the numbers, at the
expense of reality... however... when you already have the reality, the
numbers can make a difference.
When you have young men in your Troop (Varsity, Venture, whatever) that are
turning 18 and no longer able to be "youth" in the Troop, rather than simply
register them as adults in the Troop and have them sign up as ASM or MC
positions, here's a positive alternative.
Have then register as Explorers, with their 'additional' registration being
the ASM or MC position. This accomplished two things. First and formost it
keeps them on the Council books as a YOUTH (*) (real important to the Pros
as far as numbers go), and second, it provides the Exploring structure for
them to participate in, with all it's added incentives to stay active in
(*) Youth are counted as far as registration numbers go, Adults are NOT
counted as far as the numbers game... keep them youth as long as possible.
