The mention on a SCOUTS-L get-together at the Jamboree
reminded me that I should invite everyone to a party at the Sea
Exploring National Exhibit on Friday, August 6th at 8 PM. The
event is the quadrennial Jamboree "Sea Scout Reunion" where all
current or past Sea Scouts/Sea Explorers, their leaders, and
friends of Sea Scouting/Sea Exploring get together for a little
fun. Additionally, we will be having a special guest who will be
speaki ng, so you'll want to make sure you come. Refreshments
will be served.
Sea Exploring people are encouraged to come in their
dress uniforms. Non-Sea Exploring people are welcome to attend
in their Scout uniforms.
Everyone is, of course, encouraged to stop by and visit the
Sea Exploring exhibit in the National Exhibits area on Thomas
Road (right by the main visitors parking lot). We're going to
have navigation simulators, instruction in marine band VHF
radiotelephones, and SCUBA equipment, as well as exciting
demonstrations of Boatswain's Chairlift and Hoisting the
Scuttlebutt. (You say you don't know what a "scuttlebutt" is?
Well, just stop by and find out.) We have a friendly staff from
13 states who will ensure that you enjoy your visit. Of course,
we will have hand-outs.
As for the SCOUTS-L get-together, looking at the evening
schedule of events I think that our best chances for a good
turn-out are either Thursday or Saturday evenings. My vote would
be for Thursday since Saturday will probably still have visitors
hanging around. Again, if you need a place to hold the event,
let me know. The Sea Exploring exhibit area is available.
