Many InterNet sites will not be able to handle the "listserv@tcuvbm"
address becauae there is nothing that identifies it as a BITNET
system. If your mail router knows about BITNET, then you might
be able to use email@example.com. For me, the workstation
that I use doesn't understand BITNET addresses, but our mail router
does. So I use an address like listserv%tcuvbm.bitnet@<mail_host>
where <mail_host> is replaced by the name of our mail router.
A problem we have seen in the past couple of weeks might be related
to the difficulties many people have encountered. It seems that
some systems that had been operating as BITNET-InterNet gateways
have stop performing this function. A particular problem is one
site a Princeton seems to work in one direction only. So mail
might get through, but a direct reply fails. This can screw
up automatic systems like listserv since they don't have a great
deal of capability for dealing with failed mail.
