Don that's great...!! I love to see Lodges that are growing and inducting
new members. Our Lodge (Miwok 439) has two Ordeal Ceremonies a year, and we
have between 90 to 140 Candidates per Ordeal. Our problem is retention, the
lodge is typically between 450 and 600 members registered at any one time.
I sure wish we could keep everyone active that we induct.

My hope is that in the Council merger being discussed in this thread that
having OA spirit diminished is not one of the results of a forced Lodge

I am also a big fan of volunteer recognition. I don't think it should be a
tool to reward those who are political followers of the 'in crowd' of
Professional Scouters, but should instead be an honest attempt by the
volunteer District and Council committees to say thank-you to the volunteers
who have given of their time and effort for the good of the boys (and girls
too, in the case of the Exploring Division).

Your Lodge sounds like it's like ours. Our Lodges Ceremony Team won last
years Section Conclave competition, and our Dance Team has taken the top
Section awards at Conclave for the last 5 years. We have had our Dance Team
(but not our Ceremony Team) at the National competitions for the last 5
years also (haven't taken the National award yet, but 2nd a couple of
Our Lodge has hosted 2 Conclaves in the last 8 years or so (there are five
Lodges in our Section, W3A), and we are jointly hosting this years
Tri-Section conclave with W3B & W3C... lots of work, but the kids love it.
I encourage all of this kind of youth partipation, anything that's wholesome
and within the Lodge charter that can build the boys spirit, has my support.
