Some very good points are being made that a dogfight with the SE on
merging the two lodges would be stressful, and COULD harm the program and
the boys. I agree that this should not be taken lightly, and all of the facts
and alternatives should be discussed fully with the boy and adult leadership
from each lodge.
However, I do not agree that the decision to be merged should be made by
anybody but the boys. If national guidelines state that it is their
decision to make, then let it be so! Whatever damage is done by a dispute
with an SE, what can compare to the SE or anybody taking away that which is
most unique and vital about the Boy Scouts of America, which is the
empowering of Boys to lead themselves!
